#freethemother

This is a HASHTAG conversation about how we can begin to shift the role of MOTHER and take it out of the box that its been allotted for far too long.

In this modern age, in our global way of life, the role of MOTHER is demanding growth and change.

Let’s be honest, female biology draws women to stay at home to look after our children directly after childbirth.

But societal expectations for women to totally encapsulate the roleof mother, tells her to stay at home long after childbirth to feed, care for AND educate our children for much longer than might be needed.

Research shows that children’s minds expand rapidly with healthy caregiver presence and guidance in the first 3 years of life. So someone stable and nourishing has to be looking after those bundles of joy for three years if we want them to thrive emotionally.

But does it have to be one person? And does it always have to be the biological mother?

MOTHERHOOD is a beautiful thing - it builds empathy, builds connective capacities, it builds CREATIVITY, expanded awareness. And allotting it to one person often creates strain in relationships and even mental health issues. What if the whole society could share in this growth?

Here is where MOTHER is demanding change.

Are there other ways we can bring up our children?

What if MOTHER were mum and dad?

What if MOTHER were grandad, uncle Bob, and your good friend Jill?

What if MOTHER were the ENTIRE village?

So that all who contribute to the role of MOTHER can feel a balance of joy in that caring role whilst simultaneously able to be encapsulate their own identities, themselves?

Imagine how much more growth and learning a child will be exposed to by having more than ONE caregiver.

Many of you are already doing it!

How can father be brought to care for child? How can uncle, aunty, friend or elder look after child in healthy ways without there being a stigma brought to it?

How can the entire community come to care for that child? And for it to be an activity in equality?

There are ways.

You can become the mother. He can become the mother. They can become the mother.
